We agree with the Coalition that the recommendation of the House Appropriations Committee for a $0.50 per hour wage increase for direct care workers in the Community Mental Health system would help to improve quality services as well as reduce the high, costly turnover of those who are critical in providing direct care. While we support the need to increase the wages of direct care workers in the Michigan Community Mental Health System, we feel greater oversight is needed into the manner in which Community Mental Health Agencies budget and spend the Medicaid funds they are receiving. It is the intention of the Public Policy Committee of NAMI Michigan to pursue further investigation on this matter and propose a legislative initiative for improved reporting of Budgeting and spending of Medicaid funds.
